  • 2001-Christel House Academy chartered by Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, the only mayor in the nation with chartering authority
  • 2002-Facility renovation and new construction begins in high-needs neighborhood on Indianapolis' near south side
  • 2002-230 students enroll, grades K-4
  • 2003-Christel House Academy class wins "Read-a-Thon" for most books read in a city-wide competition
  • 2003-ISTEP (Indiana's standardized achievement test) scores show Christel House Academy has greatest improvement of any Indiana charter school
  • 2004-In every grade and every subject, Christel House Academy students make greater progress than the norm on both state and national levels
  • 2006-Christel House Academy delivers best aggregate scores on ISTEP exams of any of the mayor's charter schools
  • 2007-U.S. Treasurer, Anna Escobedo Cabral, visits Christel House Academy, addressing 5th grade students and recognizing student winner of Fifth Third Bank's Stock Market Challenge
  • 2007-5th grader receives "Future Leader" award-one of only 8 students in the entire state-and $1000 is deposited into her college savings account—personally awared by State Treasurer Murdock.
  • 2007-Christel House Academy achieves AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress under No Child Left Behind) for 5th consecutive year and receives highest possible rating-"Exemplary"-from Indiana Department of Education
  • 2008-CHA earns the 2008 Indiana Department of Education High Performing Title I School Award for Closing the Achievement Gap and is given a $25,000 cash award.
